Good Solutions

Renewable Energy is an essential element of how the 1.5 goal agreed in the 2015 Paris Agreement can be achieved in a climate-friendly way. Renewable Energy for the People is a vision of how energy supply can be organised globally to counteract global warming while taking into account the needs of marginalised communities.

Renewable energy systems use solar energy, wind, hydropower or biomass, depending on the context. However, climate just renewable energy means socially just renewable energy.

Social aspects are central to the design of sustainable energy solutions. It is pivotal to bring social criteria into the renewable energy debate. Energy production has to include communities and their needs (“people dimension”), enabling access to sufficient renewable energy (“access dimension”) while respecting planetary boundaries (“planet dimension”).

Communities or countries with an unsustainable energy consumption have to reduce their energy consumption. Hence, for them, energy efficiency and sufficiency are an additional important pillars for a fair contribution to global climate justice. Together, countries, societes and communities can transition to a world of decentralized and jointly managed energy provision. Find more information here.
